John William DEVEREUX's son, Julien Sidney DEVEREUX (1805-1856), was a Legislator, planter and landowner. Julien owned a substantial plantation called Monte Verdi, located in Rusk County, Texas. At the peak of his success, Julien Sidney DEVEREUX built the Monte Verdi Plantation in Rusk County, Texas comprising 10,000 acres of land and 80 enslaved African Americans. These enslaved people were a combination of owned and slaves that he stole from his wife, Adaline BRADLEY that he left on the Bradley Plantation in Covington County, Alabama in 1837 before leaving Macin County, Alabama in 1840 and arriving in the Republic of Texas after walkng from Macon County, Alabama in 1841.
